API Marine has signed a contract with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for the supply of Cargo Monitoring System, High Level/ Overfill Alarm System and Alarm System & Remote Sounding System for a series of high-specification icebreaking shuttle tankers from Russian owner Sovcomflot.
The ships will be classified as ‘Arc-7’, the highest standard of ice-breaking cargo, and will be installed with API Marine sensors, which has marine class approval to -55° Celsius and is ideally suited of this type of applications. This prestigious order is yet another important step for API Marine being recognized as a preferred partner and supplier for ice-class & arctic applications.
They will have an overall length of 249m, beam of 34m, and depth of 15m and are slightly smaller than the icebreaking shuttle tankers ordered by Sovcomflot from SHI in 2005.
The tankers will be capable to operate in extreme cold conditions to – 45 Celsius, and will be able to overcome ice thickness of 2.1 meters, allowing them to work in the Arctic without icebreaker assistance…..
